The Festival Grec de Barcelona, also known as El Grec, is an annual summer festival held in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain). The festival runs from mid-June until early August and features a program of theater, music, dance and circus.
The festival is named after its original venue, the Grec Theater on Montjuïc which still serves as a performance space during the festival as well as its epicenter. The festival is a city-wide event, and productions are staged in several of Barcelona’s premiere cultural and art institutions, including the Museum for Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA), the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), the Fundació Miró, Caixaforum, the Biblioteca de Catalunya, Teatre Lliure, Mercat de les Flors, Teatre Nacional de Catalunya and l’Auditori, among others.
For, this time around, the sights are set further than ever: on Japan, where the organizers have found the most fascinating shows to enrich the program, a fusion of Mediterranean and Japanese sensibilities, is certain to become one of the highlights on the festival program this year.
