This week long festival in the Gracia neighbourhood of Barcelona takes places from15th -to 21st of August 2010.
Gracia is a peaceful residentialy neighbourhood north of the city centre, with narrow streets lined with elegant old balconied buildings and shady squares with historic churches and cafe terraces.
This is the biggest of the neighbourhood festivals in Barcelona and basically one big street party. The 15th August is a public holiday and the metro will be open all night in Barcelona.
16 streets and squares in Gracia were decorated by residents who transformed them into elaborately themed theatrical carnival style decorations to compete for the prize of being the best decorated street or square of the festival. The neighbours on the competing streets put all their free time into preparing these street decorations and the results are amazing. All the decorate streets are worth visiting, but can take a while, so be sure to visit the streets that took the top prizes last year
